I took this photo in the city of Surabaya, Indonesia, in a jazz themed event. But this singer when I took the photo was singing a ballad with a jazz rhythm. The singer's appearance is unique and with a very improvised voice. Very impressive!Time
It was a precious moment for me to have the right time to take this photo, because the stage lights sometimes turn a bit dim. I took this photo at night during the event entitled Jazz Traffic. This event was held in the evening, exactly 1 day after the anniversary of my country's independence day. August 18 2017, at 07:33 PMLighting
The music concert that I took pictures of, had very good lighting. And I estimate before I go to the location of this music concert event. I am very confident with the lighting used at this music concert, I can take it without the help of a light that I have to carry. And here is the result!Equipment
I use a Canon EOS 60D DSLR camera, with the EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM lens from Canon. I did not bring a flash light or additional light assisted from flash equipment. I was helped a lot by the light from the concert stage. And I should add, that it is not possible to bring a tripod when taking photos, because of the full audience of this music concert.Inspiration
The focus of my lens is always on the music stage, and I wait for the right moment for the bright light of the stage lights and the scattering of dry ice smoke on the stage. Some time before I took this photo, I had studied some photos taken from a photo concert. The references that I use as 'study' materials are photos uploaded on the Pinterest platform and several local magazines about music concerts in my country.Editing
There is a slight decrease in sharpness due to taking this photo at night and not using a tripod, while the light I used was originally from stage lights. Of course, the photo will result in noise and some parts of the photo object are a little blurry. Post processing that I do is to suppress the noise that arises and bring up the sharpness of the photo with the help of Photoshop. Only that. And the photo format that I use is a JPEG file.In my camera bag
I often carry a Canon EOS R camera with a Canon RF 50mm F1.8 STM lens. It is my habit to take photos like a street photography activity. Only that. But at this music concert I brought a different camera and lens.Feedback
Keep taking photos to better understand the technique of how to take pictures with the right moment. If you experience failure, study the failure, and if possible correct the photos that you think are not in accordance with your concept or target. The more you fail to take photos that don't match your expectations, the more you will form your instinct of readiness to produce good photos. And don't forget to take references that fit your genre. Good luck!
