Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Basso di Giau in the Italien Dolomites last autumn.

Time

We drove over that pass an evening before in thick fog, but I had the imagination, there must be more to see here. Next evening we came from a hiking trip to the perfect time of the day, parked the car and climbed a small mountain with that great view. The sun was setting, the clouds below us and an incredible light and landscape.

Lighting

On the evening there are so many different light conditions. here the last sunbeams coming over the mountains, set the tops on fire.

Equipment

I had only my Sony alpha 7ii with me with my 24-70mm lens. The rest was lying in the car... I tripod would be helpful but with this light it is not essential.

Inspiration

There is the overwhelming landscape that must be captured. I was feeling very small.

Editing

This was a challenge for Lightroom, the dark tones must be lightened, the hight tones darkened a little bit. In such cases I appreciated the power of a RAW file.

In my camera bag

My Sony alpha 7ii as the main part of equipment, a 24-70 mm lens and a 100-400 mm lens, in the mountains also a 14 mm lens. For a tripod I'm usually to lazy. This day and this time of the day I have could use it, but is was laying in my tent... But with my Sony camera I can push ISO a little up without great losses of quality.

Feedback

There are two best times of the day to get the best pictures, the morning and the evening, sometimes always at night or the beginning night. You must always have luck with the weather conditions. But the most important advice is: discuss the photographs with friends or in a photoclub and be not afraid of critics. This is the only way to get better. That's what I'm trying to do, do get better...
