Location
I took this photo in Dresden in front of the Opera House built by Gottfried Semper. The memorial in the front is a memorial for the Saxon king Johann of Saxony, a famous Dante translator (1801-1873).Time
It was the early evening in November, the blue hour, we just left the Zwinger, a famous baroque gallery.Lighting
Here we can see contrasting light, the warm tones of the electric lights and the cold tones of the sky. The details of the sky are still visible, the best time for such Photos.Equipment
I had only my Sony alpha 7ii and a 24-70 mm lens with me and that was enough for the picture. Later in the evening it would be better to use a tripod.Inspiration
Dresden is a beautiful baroque town, although heavily bombed in the war is it still a very inspiring City. Here are two things to be seen, the memorial as a kind of foreground and the opera house in that wonderful light.Editing
The most difficult part in the post processing was to lighten up the memorial, because there was not much light on it. But the new Lightroom features for selecting a motif made it much more easier. Not much more, a little bit darken the lights. In my camera bag
My Sony alpha 7ii camera of course, always a 24-70mm and a 100-400 mm lens, sometimes a 90 mm macro or a 14 mm wide angle prime lens., some filters, batteries and some sensor cleaning equipment.Feedback
The time of the day makes the difference, morning or evening, the blue hour, contrasting lights a almost favorable. You must always have a little bit luck with the weather conditions. But the most important advice is: discuss the photographs with friends or in a photoclub and be not afraid of critics. This is the only way to get better. That's what I'm trying to do, do get better...
