Behind The Lens

Location

Foxes are normally shy and stay away from people but when spring comes and mother fox is looking for some place to have her kits she will find a den near to humans to protect her little ones from coyotes who stay away form contact. In this case she denned up under our barn behind the house.

Time

This was taken at 4:09PM, late afternoon about the time their mother would be coming home with supper.

Lighting

It was a cloudy spring afternoon

Equipment

It was my wife's Sony HX400v. It's wide range telephoto lens sometimes works better capturing this sort of shot than my Sony DSLR's that have lenses I normally use for formal portrait work.

Inspiration

I loved catching any shots of these 6 little fox kits whenever they made their appearance.

Editing

Other than cropping to an 8 x 10 no other editing was done.

In my camera bag

With this point and shoot camera no other items were used or needed.

Feedback

This sort of shot just requires patience and a knowledge of when they come out during the daylight hours. At night it was nothing to see 6 or 7 sets of eyes staring at you from the brush or field with a low beam flashlight.
