Behind The Lens
Location
The Louvre in Paris has these great fountains around it that create some spectacular reflections of this museum and its iconic glass pyramid.Time
This photo was taken during the night. Even when the museum is closed there are many people around this area but much less than during the day. The combination of reduced crowds and the lights of the museum reflecting of the water make for beautiful photos.Lighting
The lighting for this photo is mainly provided by the lights of the museum itself. A long exposure photograph gives the best results as it brightens the scene, blurs out the people and smooths the water.Equipment
This photo was taken with a Nikon D7000 18-300mm lens. No flash was used. This is a long exposure photo with an ISO 100 to keep the noise down. I use a Manfrotto tripod with a Really Right Stuff ball head.Inspiration
My daughter wanted to decorate her bedroom with a Paris theme so I promised to to get some pictures of iconic Paris locations on my next trip. In addition to the Eiffel Tower the Louvre is one of the most recognizable Paris locations.Editing
This photo required very little processing. The most important processing was to adjust the coloring. The lights in Paris give everything a very yellow tint. Doing some quick editing gave this photo the look I wanted. In my camera bag
I have carried pretty much the same equipment in my bag for the past 10 years. A Nikon D7000 or 7500 DSLR are the cameras I use. I carry two lenses. The Nikon 18-300mm is my main lens as it is very versatile and allows for great range .In addition I carry a Tokina 11-16 f2.8. This lens is great for giving me a wider view and also for low light conditions such as capturing the Milky Way with it's f8 capability. The camera and these two lenses fit well in a medium sized Lowepro bag which can fit under my seat on a plane if needed. Because most of my photography is done at night I carry a Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 tripod used in combination with a Really Right Stuff tripod to keep things super steady for those long exposures.Feedback
To get a shot similar to this make sure to use a tripod to keep your long exposure shot steady. I use a an F8 setting in combination with an ISO of 100 to give me good lighting while keeping most things in sharp focus. I then adjust to exposure time to get the look I want.
