This photo was taken in a Zimbabwe field while searching for lions on a trip of a lifetime.Time
It was an early morning trip in the Jeep. The fields were alight with so many different birds with colors I’ve never seen. When he began his flight the emerging colors on his spread wings were amazing. Then he turned and I felt like he was just staring into the camera. What luck!Lighting
The morning light was subdued due to hazy clouds so not too harsh .Equipment
Sony mirrorless FE 100-400mm GM f/5.6. 100 ISO 1/000sec Hand heldInspiration
We were leisurely roaming through fields looking for larger wildlife and came upon many colorful birds. This one was resting at ground level showing a beautiful pink and turquoise body and then it flew, exposing brilliant blues and a large wing span. This became one of my very favorite photos!Editing
I only cropped, adjusted highlights and shadows as well as white balance in LR.In my camera bag
I always have the Sony 7rii mirrorless with me. Having made a switch from my canon 70D crop, I use a metabone adapter because I love my canon 70-200 ii mm lens and 24-70ii . My sigma wide angle and Sony 16-50mm. It is an expensive process to changeover ! I’ve now upgraded to newer Sony mirrorless.Feedback
Africa is an amazing, diverse place with so many animals, landscapes ,wildlife photo opportunities. However the wildlife and landscapes in the states offer awesome opportunities and are available in most places. I recommend patience and willingness to take 100 photos to get the one shot! Most of all take time to simply enjoy the moment and beauty!
