Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo sitting on my porch behind my screen door.

Time

It was late afternoon/early evening. I was waiting for the sun to set.

Lighting

I had to position my face to get the lighting just right for the contours but I also wanted to get my eyes in the picture because I have light blue eyes. The sun is an excellent light source.

Equipment

Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus phone.

Inspiration

I really don't take a lot of selfies, let alone post them on social media. I figured it was time for one. I wanted it to stand out and be unique. More personal.

Editing

First, I made it black and white. I made edits to the contrast, sharpness. As well as other foundational tweaks. I also darkened the shadows to really make it more dynamic.

In my camera bag

I normally have my Nikon Coolpix L840 but I also use just my phone a lot. I have an older Nikon d100 which I just picked back up so I am looking forward to using that again. More pictures coming soon!

Feedback

Just keep an eye out for interesting lighting. If the sun is shining through something and it makes a cool pattern, try to jump in and take a few shots. Or think of a different subject matter you can capture. You never know what will come out of it!
