The photo was taken in my home studio in Israel. I am an Israeli photographer born in Ukraine. I was interested in photography since my childhood; my mother was a professional portrait photoartist. From my early years, I helped her all I could, put film in tanks, developed photos, polished and dried. All this was at the level of a childhood hobby. I have taken up photography seriously about 5 years agoTime
This shoot was taken in studio at evening after planned photo session, just for fun.Lighting
The light arrangement is quite simple: Here is simple one light set up , I used white beauty dish from right side and big white wall from the other. I putted light at 45% in front of me, at the height approximately reaching the tip of the model's nose.Equipment
I do my photography using Canon 5D Mark III; for the portrait shooting I use Canon lens 85 mm 1.2 or 135 mm 1.8 Sigma Art. At 99% of the time, I shoot at fully open aperture values. The fully open aperture allows me to separate my model from the background even more.Inspiration
I often see a setting or a certain pose for a model, or else a moment that I want to immediately capture on the camera. Afterwards, I analyze the resulting picture and can add to it or improve on it if such an opportunity presents itself. So it happened with this photo the same, of course, being able to plan the future photoshoot and getting ready for it in advance is great. But it’s not always the case with me – sometimes, I take spontaneous shotsEditing
Here is almost not needed post processing works cause this photo was taken at 1.2 aperture , just blemishes removal and little dodge&burn. In my camera bag
Normally in my bag only prime lenses, I love ultra open aperture and sharpen in the same time.Feedback
Some advise tip : Put model far from the background and use tele photo lens like 135mm or 85mm. A background need to be darker than model, I prefer brown or deep olive, green. Choose darker clothes without prints. Use open aperture to make good separation from the background. For achieve soft light I putted white fabric on the floor for more fill light coming. Ask your model to pull chin little bit forward it's make more depth on photography . Use fen on hair to make them more dynamic look. That's all, and I wish you all love and beauty.
