The wonderful symmetry of this young male was what caught my eye as he watched me - cautious but not unduly worried.

Location
This photo was taken in the Kruger National Park in South Africa. There is a huge variety of wildlife in this wonderful nature reserve, and the prey species are just as impressive as the predators!Time
This was taken in the afternoon - not quite the golden hour, but approaching it.Lighting
The light is always great in Kruger! Whether it's the golden hour, bright midday sun, moody thunderclouds or light diffused through low-lying clouds, there is always something interesting to work with.Equipment
This was shot with my trusty Canon 5D Mk III, and my even more trusty Canon 100-400 telephoto lens. No artificial light, and no tripod, just the camera balanced on the edge of the car door!Inspiration
In Kruger National Park, inspiration is around every corner! The wildlife of Africa is so inspiring, you have to really focus to select the shots you want to take - it's easy to just want to photograph everything!Editing
Very little! I lifted the contrast and colour saturation a tiny bit so the photo looked like my memory of the encounter - that was it.In my camera bag
Not a huge amount - I'm often walking and carrying all my gear, so I travel fairly light. My Canon 5D and 100-400 telephoto are always in there, spare memory cards and batteries (I ran out of battery once in the middle of a game drive, never go without spare batteries anymore!), and lots of lens-cleaning kit.Feedback
Go on safari in Kruger! If you've never been before, then it can be worth getting a guide, as they will know the best places to find the wildlife. Then just keep your eyes peeled, and wait for inspiration to walk around a bush and stare straight down your lens!
