Location
The photo was made in the small village of Ruta, Slovenia, where the train is comes from the tunnel.Time
It was made in the middle of the day at 1.30PM. I wanted to make a different photo, so I chose this tunnel location. It was cold but it was worth it to wait and walk to the tunnelLighting
In the winter, because the valley is deep, the sun appears for a short time. The problem is also that this steam train travels through the valley only once a year. I also used the CPL filter to try to get a stronger contrast between light and shadowsEquipment
I used a camera Nikon d500, Sigma lens 10-20mm, CPL filter and put it all on a tripodInspiration
I wanted to have a photo of a museum train in a genuine environment, without new buildings and disturbing factors. It's also hard to find this location, because you need to walk on it and wait for the moment of these 10 seconds to get the photo you want. If something goes wrong, you have a new option in a yearEditing
I wanted a strong contrast, details in shadows, so I changed these settings, I cut a photo slightly and changed the color of the white and noise reductionIn my camera bag
In my nearly 25 kg heavy bag I have Nikon d500 (my baby) Sigma 10-20mm f3.5, Sigma 18-50mm f2.8, Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 with Cpl and ND filters. There is a Manfroto tripod attached to the sideFeedback
In these situations, where you have the opportunity only once a year, be prepared for everything (weather, light, access ...). Be at least half an hour at a location, look and find for a suitable place for a photo, make some shots with different camera settings to see what you like and what you want
