Location
This photo was taken on the beach in Avon, North Carolina in the Outer Banks. One of my favorite places to go because it's more of the family area of the Outer Banks and the beaches are never packed.Time
If my memory is correct it was around 11 AM we had been laying around and he just let us bury his body so I thought let's see how high hell let us bury him. He just sat there enjoying the cool sand. He even sat there while I got my camera because this hadn't been a planned photo moment. I find those are actually the best pictures, the ones you don't plan on taking.Lighting
Honestly, I wasn't thinking about lighting in this case. Usually I do but, as mentioned before, this was a spontaneous thing and I knew I just needed to take it or I'd miss it.Equipment
For this shot I actually used my phone. I believe it was an iPhone 7 SE.Inspiration
My family and I had been just hanging out and relaxing. The thing that really inspired me on this shot is just the look of joy on his face. He was having as much fun at the beach as we were and he was just so happy to be there with us. I think it's something especially nowadays we should focus on. Just enjoying the moment and being present and enjoying the people we are with. I feel it's something we often take for granted.Editing
No I didn't do any post-processing on this shot. I felt that the image was fine the way it is. Also, the brighter and blurrier background I felt really pushed the subject out more and kept the focus on the main subject. In my camera bag
My bag consists of my Canon EOS REBEL T2i, UV protector filters, 300 mm and 55 mm lenses. I also always have my phone on me as well because sometimes a spontaneous shot will not give you time to get your camera and my phone is a great way to get those shots.Feedback
Don't worry about getting the perfect moment. You'll find a lot of shots that you really like aren't necessarily the shots you planned for and often the perfect moment isn't the one you are waiting on. If you see something that sparks something in you take the shot. Don't only focus on the planned things. Plan on where you want to go but don't focus so strongly on the shots you want to take that you miss something amazing.
