The three most important requirements for major success in photography are persistence, patience and of course being at the right place at the right time. These three things are the key elements to succeed especially in landscape photography. I took this photo two weeks ago in a place called The Pinnacles in Phillip Island, a popular spot for photographers, located about two hours drive from Melbourne. To get this particular shot I had to go through all these three essential components. Firstly, I have been to this place more than four times before, and I persistently keep coming back just to get the shot I would be happy with. Secondly, I was staying at the location for about six hours, waiting until the sun went down and it got dark enough so I would be able to capture the movements of the stars, and because of my patience, I have succeeded there as well. And lastly, I would not end up with this particular photo if the weather conditions weren’t perfect for it. I was lucky to have this beautiful sunset with the cloudless sky above, so once again being at the right place at the right time plays another important role in photography.
I love how the grass in the foreground is backlit by the sun, giving a dimension to the photograph. I tried a few different compositions but to be able to get more stars in my frame I had to position my camera vertically. I hope you like it.
