I look this photo out in the fields I have near my house; the irony is that this picture was taken in a field surrounded by busy streets, commercial buildings, and a highway. It is strange being able to escape the city while still being right in the middle of it, but this picture proves it can be done and thats why I love it.Time
I remember watching the sun set from the shopping center and thinking how wonderful the light caught the few trees speckling the parking lot...and then I remembered there was a field on the other side of the building that the sun was setting behind. It was about six o'clock; the golden hour was upon me and I made sure to try and capture it best I could.Lighting
The lighting is purely natural, and the way the warm beams caught on the whips atop the grass really caught my eye and made me feel like I was in another world. Without the sun in the exact position it was in, the lighting would have otherwise been impossible to create. But just as soon as it was perfect, it was gone behind the highway, so there was only about 5 minutes of perfect lighting.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon DSLR (forgive me but I have since moved to the cannon rebel T6i so I don't remember exactly which model the camera was). No flash necessary, and no tripod; I happened to have a friend with me at the time so I took the shots free hand (so to speak).Inspiration
The warmth of the colors and the sun combined with the cool autumn air was just a bundle of comfort for me personally, and I felt this composition just really brought all of that into works. As I said earlier, I am surrounded by the city, and though I love it, a quiet area is almost impossible to find. However, I feel this picture has a quietness about it despite its loud setting.Editing
I played with the curves of the image a bit just to even out the red tones, but honestly I barely had to touch it; the light did everything for me!In my camera bag
Usually it's just me and my canon rebel T6i and maybe a tripod. I like to keep it as simple as I can.Feedback
The great thing about this lighting is that it can be found almost everywhere, almost every day. But finding the right place to take pictures of it is the trick. having the sun behind the subject creates a wonderful backlit composition, and silhouette pictures can also be taken if the sun is DIRECTLY behind the subject. The halo effect is beautiful, but really it's all up to you!
