Location
This photo was taken at an old building in Jakarta's Old Town. This building is one of the famous old architecture for photoshoot.Time
I took this photo around afternoon time. We had a horror photoshoot concept in the building... when suddenly Luis came and became the additional subject of my photo session.Lighting
For this picture, I wanted to make it dramatic low key portrait. I hexagonal softbox in upper-front of him (8 o'clock position)... and two bare speedlites at the back (10 and 2 o'clock position), with the brighter flash at 2.Equipment
This was taken with a Sony A7R with a 1985 Minolta AF lens (on of the first autofocus SLR lenses in the world) plus LA-EA4 adapter. The autofocus was working good with the combination, for a lens almost as old as me:)Inspiration
At that time, I was exploring portraits and became inspired by the work of Lee Jeffries. So I was hunting portraits of interesting people I met... be it a homeless, family or friend of mine.Editing
Yes. I did quite heavy dodge and burn technique here to emphasize the dramatic lighting. In my camera bag
Now, I always carry my Sony Zeiss FE 55mm f1.8 lens in the bag if I bring my Sony camera. I like the sharpness and the size of this lens. If I want to go light, I usually bring my Panasonic Lumix G85 camera with kit lens and Canon 50mm f1.8 + Viltrox EF-M2 adapter.Feedback
Just let your subject relaxed and be their original character. Play with lighting to bring the dramatic mood... or at least, bring a small round reflector when hunting people's portrait in the streets.
