My brother from Hawaii was hoping to see a Moose the last evening of our mid June canoe trip into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) in Minnesota, he had never seen one in the wild. Camped on Cross Bay Lake which has always been a great lake to observe Moose we loaded up in the canoes and headed east on the lake toward some narrow bays that had good forage for Moose to feed on. As we were paddling with my brother & son in the lead canoe & me following with two friends in tow, I got a quick glance of a bull disappearing into the dense forest from the shore. My brother was bummed figured he'd missed only chance to see a Moose. I told him we would paddle ahead to the mouth of the bay and sit quietly hoping this bull or another would show up in the lily pad & reed filled shallow bay. Not even 10 minutes later the bull materializes from the forest and enters the water to feed. My brother is in awe. For over 45 minutes we were able to watch this bull feed at close range and did not make him feel threatened with our presence. I took over 80 photos of him with a Nikon Camera & 200-400mm lens. the light was perfect as the sun was setting. A great end to a wonderful trip!
