The man in the photo was the sole inspiration. He is my and my children's hero. I know there is so much that this person has seen that many people haven't, so my goal was to capture as much emotion as I could through his eyes.

Cindy, as a veteran thank you for this detailed portrait of a combat ready soldier. Have you tried to get into military publication or as a recruiting poster?

Location
The photo was taken in my home in Louisiana with just natural light.Time
This photo was taking around midday in my living room, I opened my front door to my house to allow the most light to come in. The rest of the house was dark allowing the background to be dark.Lighting
Working with natural light you are in the hands of natural. I had wanting to do this photo for months but the weather had been so gloomy which made it horrible inside. The first day of great weather was the day this photo was taken.Equipment
Canon 6d, Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IIInspiration
The man in the photo was the sole inspiration. He is my and my children's hero. I know there is so much that this person has seen that many people haven't, so my goal was to capture as much emotion as I could through his eyes.Editing
I did not do much to the photo but lighten and sharpen the eye. I also cleaned up the whites of the eye too.In my camera bag
My canon 6d, my canon 24-70 and 50mm.Feedback
The setup was simple for creating this image. I sat in the open doorway my back towards the outside and the subject in front of me just a couple of feet from the door. I was at f 2.8 because I wanted the eye to be the main subject.
