Location
This photo was taken in my backyard at the end of a beautiful Okanagan summer evening.Time
The sun had set an hour or so before this shot so I was working exclusively with the lights in my yard while playing with long exposure shots.Lighting
The primary source of light used for this shot came from a string of white Christmas lights that were wrapped around the trunk of a large tree. If you look closely at her eyes you can see the odd reflection pattern caused by the string of tiny lights.Equipment
This shot was taken by hand-holding my Sony A7, using the magnificent Sony/Zeiss 50mm 1.8f lens.Inspiration
A little wine and a whole lot of restlessness inspired me to get out and shoot while staying close to home.Editing
Post-processing was done using Lightroom. I'm still searching for my voice as a photographer so these results were reached by fiddling and experimenting until I was happy with it.In my camera bag
My typical gear (packed into the awesome Lowepro Flipside Sport 15L AW) includes my Zeiss 50mm, my 28-70mm kit lens, and a Canon 75-300mm with Fotodiox Pro adaptor. Occasionally my Manfrotto tripod joins me, as well as a vintage Mirador super wide angle adaptor for creative distortion shots.Feedback
Learning to shoot requires constant practice. Even when inspiration seems low you'll be amazed by the shots you can get just by always having your gear close by. And sometimes, like with this shot, being unprepared (having the wrong gear for an unexpected ahot) can be an opportunity to learn something new!
