Behind The Lens

Location

I developed love and passion for photography as I visited beautiful, naturalistic places that allowed to be in touch with nature and be fulfilled with inspiration. Before school started, I wanted to go somewhere beautiful and peaceful to kick off with a great start that year, which is when this photograph was captured in Illinois at the beautiful river that runs on the edge of Starved Rock.

Time

The sun during the warm summers in Oglesby, IL usually starts to set at around 9PM. It was starting to get late at Starved Rock, and after a long day of exploring, I wanted to contemplate the beauty and sweet silence of the sun ceasing into the magical water. At the sight of the beautiful light and colors displayed all around me felt just right to be captured.

Lighting

The lighting in this photograph is just the right amount. The colors on the sky and the water reflection is well brought out with the subtle hint of sunlight. Nevertheless, the stunning orange colored aura that is transmitted by the sun, gives the photograph the lovely feeling of warmth and tranquility.

Equipment

This photograph was actually taken with an iPhone 4 camera and a lot of passion.

Inspiration

I am an amateur Photojournalist and I slowly started to discover my attraction to nature and its' beauty. The spot where I took this picture was actually a spot where me and my partner were having a picnic after a long day of exploring the wild. The warmth felt so fulfilling, and my eyes were just flooded with a burst of stunning colors and sparkly water that I had no doubt I had to preserve it.

Editing

Landscape photography is fun and beautiful, however, because the stunning colors of nature are hard to fully capture by anything that is not the naked eye. The vibrant colors had to be helped to be brought out to what the sky looked like that evening. The exposure was played with to emphasize the sky's solid hues.

In my camera bag

In my bag I carry two batteries that are always fully charged, along with the charger. I have three memory cards for any sort of inconvenience and of course my beautiful Nikon D3300 camera, including two lenses. My always go to is a 18-55mm lens that I use 95% of the time, while my other 55-200mm lens is used mainly when nature surprises me with beauty up high, or when Coldplay comes to Chicago in concert and I need a better view.

Feedback

I am still baby stepping myself into the photography world and still have a lot of equipment to discover, however, one piece of equipment that is of great help would be a tripod. For this photograph I had to wait until the sun was set at a certain extent so that the light would not be too bright and burning-like instead of warm. Though I do understand that sometimes some of.. um.. us cannot afford fancy material, a trick that always does it for me so I do not shake or let my breathing move the camera, is to try to be leaning against something by the side of your arm (even if it means having your girlfriend ALSO stay still for hours) because that keeps your balance and allows you to control your breathing better. Your breathing rate is very important to be able to stay as steady as possible because pretty much you yourself need to become the tripod.
