Location
Yosemite National Park, from near Cathedral Beach. The formation is known as Three Brothers and is reflected off the Merced River.Time
THis was taken slightly before sunrise. The day before there was ice on portions of the river. It was shot in late February 2015.Lighting
I found the spot the day before I shot this. I loved the reflection, but due to bubbles and debris floating on the water, I wanted to show up before sunrise to allow a longer exposure to smooth out the debris. The week I visited, clouds were frequent and added nicely to the shot.Equipment
Canon 6D body with wide angle lens, and polarizing filter.Inspiration
I loved Ansel Adams work. Some of his best work was taken either very early or late in the day, with the patience to take advantage of cloudy skies. I loved this shot in color, but black and white suited it nicely.Editing
This was shot as a 5 bracketed exposure HDR, then process in black and white using Adobe Camera Raw and Topaz B&W Effects. In my camera bag
All Canon equipment. My accessory backpack weighs in at about 45 lbs, so I carry a lot of stuff.Feedback
The best time to shoot anywhere is usually early morning. If you shoot landscapes, it's quiet and peaceful and even popular tourist hotspots can be a lonely spot early.
