Location
I took this shot at home.Time
It was in the afternoon. The room has florescent lighting, and no windows, so the time of day didn't really play into this shot.Lighting
The overhead lighting is very harsh, so I positioned myself and Tom (the cat), so the lighting was behind me, reflecting off the walls and his fur.Equipment
I used my Nikon 5300 with a Nikor 18-140 lens. No flash or other equipment was needed.Inspiration
I am very new to photography, and love experimenting with different subjects, lighting, viewpoints, etc. Since joining Viewbug, I find I am inspired daily by the contests, challenges, and other members of the site. Being an animal lover, the contest "Animals are Beautiful" captured my attention. I decided to work at portraying my own pets in natural poses that brings out their best features.Editing
I am learning to use Lightroom, but basically, the program remains a mystery to me. I did crop this picture, and sharpen it a bit, but did very minimal post-processing .In my camera bag
My Nikon 5300, either my Nikor 18-140 or Nikor 70-300 lens, a ND filter, spare SD cards and a battery charger.Feedback
As a new photographer, it is easy to be amazed by photos taken in exotic locations, and of special celebrations. I think it is important to let your muse guide you to the beauty in the things that surround us every day, and to look at them under different lighting, from different angles, and sometimes, just in ordinary settings. Photography has allowed me to look at the beauty in the world in a new way, and challenged me to find a way to capture and share it with others.
