This photo was taken at a Hacienda where we stayed in Urubamba Peru at a small village in the Sacred Valley near Cusco Peru. We had a car and driver and we were on a tour of the Valley and the beautiful and historic Inca sites in the area. We spent several days in the area in October 2014Time
We spent the night of October 26th 2014 at an amazing Hacienda in Urubamba. This photo was taken the next morning while waiting to be picked up by our driver and guide at about 8:30 am and at altitude 9,422. feet. A beautiful way to start a day of photography including Ollantaytambo the Inca Laboratory, small villages and other historical sites in the Sacred Valley.Lighting
The lighting is beautiful at that altitude (9,422 ft.) and at that time of day (8:30 am). High snow covered mountains, and low hanging clouds surround the area and the air is pure and clean, all contributing to the beautiful lighting.Equipment
Nikon D810 with a 28-300mm Nikkor lens. A Walking stick was used like a mono pod.Inspiration
The beautiful scenes in the Sacred Valley, and the High mountains of Peru are a landscape photographers dream, but along with taking landscape pictures I also keep a look out for colorful butterflies and birds not seen at home. This butterfly was frequenting a local flower, and stopped long enough for me to take several photos.Editing
Yes, there was some post processing on this photo. I usually shoot Raw, but to make sure I caught this fast moving butterfly I shot this in jpg. Any cropping would have occurred in Lightroom, as well as lens correction, making sure WB was correct and some sharpening. I opened it in Photoshop converted it to profile and saved it for web.In my camera bag
My photo bag always includes a Nikon camera currently the D810. I am mainly a Travel photographer so I try to travel light. My favorite travel lens is the Nikkor 28-300mm, and I am on my third! I guess my travels are hard on lenses! Sometimes I include a 12-24mm Nikkor lens depending upon where I plan to travel. Lately I have added a Go Pro 4 to try out some different views. Most of the rest of my lenses, including prime lenses, and zooms are used for my Photography in New Mexico.Feedback
While traveling in a different country I try to take a picture of everything! Of course that is not possible, but I have many interests in the countries to which I travel, including the history, culture, flora and fauna. In Peru, I was overwhelmed by the breathtaking beauty of the Sacred Valley area, ever changing clouds over the high snow covered mountains to which we even learned their names. Traveling with a driver and guide who knew the area intimately we could see the highlights, go off the beaten path and I was able to yell Stop when there was a scene that I just had to photograph. If at all possible that is the way to capture the best of an area.
