Location
The location was in Streymoy near Saksun, just few miles south of Tjornuvik, on the Faroe Islands Seven miles of gentle bends in a lush green valley lead to this lonely church overlooking a fjord and surrounded by waterfalls.Time
It was late afternoon as indicated by the shadow from the rocky hill.Lighting
The Faroe Islands landscape consists of beautiful green rolling hills which is likely due to the up to 300 rainy days per year.{Feeding on this greenery there are probably more sheep on the Islands than people} The lighting is affected by the blue sky, green surrounding the church, the waterfalls the stream leading to ocean as well as the green of the grass- roof.Equipment
My equipment was a hand held Nikon 810, with a 28-300mm Nikkor lens.Inspiration
My inspiration behind this photo is the essence of the Faroe Island: Beautiful green landscape, waterfalls, the stream, the grass-roof, portraying the symbol of the islands. The only thing missing were the sheep! Where else would one see a small grass- roofed church in such a beautiful location?Editing
I probably did a bit of cropping, but I do not remember that I did much else as the photo had it all!In my camera bag
As I travel I try to carry as little as possible. Usually I have a small point and shoot {now replaced by my iphone} a monopod/walking stick, and the Nikon D810 with my "travel lens" Nikkor 28-300mm lens and possibly my Nikkor12-24mm lens.Feedback
Try to spend as much time as possible in the remote beautiful areas of the World. Just driving around the Faroe islands is a beautiful experience, and the people are very warm and friendly. No matter where I travel I like to take pictures of Churches, both inside, and out as they mean [or have meant] so much to the people and the country. This is a particularly simple but beautiful church surrounded by the beauty of the Creator.
