I took this photo in a small river in Flores Island, in the Azores, in the middle of the North Atlantic OceanTime
This was just before sunset. The idea was to make a photo for the Elephant Photo contest. Of course there are no elephants in the Azores, and I had to find an alternative way: I decided to use my small ebony elephants; Took them in my backpack, and walked a couple of Km with my gear, up to a waterfall. I then took several photos at different times, before sunset. It was windy: One of them fall down the waterfall, and is still missing ...Lighting
Of course light is everything about photography. Sometimes the exposure meter should not be respected at all, to achieve original photos. I wanted a high contrast on that photo, so the backlight from the sunset was ideal.Equipment
Sony NEX-6, with 18-105 F4 lens, Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 tripod , remote control.Inspiration
The need to photograph elephants in a different way. Walking down a river and waterfalls at sunset was part of it too...Editing
Only some adjustments in lighting. In my camera bag
To keep my equipment at hand and reach places difficult to access, I need small and lightweight equipment: I use the quite universal Sony NEX-6 and 18-105 F4 lens, and 16-55 F2.8 if i need a faster and slightly wider angle. The tripod is the Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 tripod, great for what I need.Feedback
Escape from conventions, make photography firstly with your heart: Let the beauty of the world you are looking at express itself, adjusting the camera so it will show what you see, then press the shutter button.
