Location
I took this photo in a very nice designed semi-public garden adjacent to a private enterprise consisting of a redevelopment of an old but now redundant business-plant for energy-distribution to public and private properties in the town of Dordrecht in the Netherlands, my home town. Now redeveloped to have become a very popular restaurant, bar and hotel. With the garden where vegetables, fruits and herbs are cultivated and grown to be used in restaurant and hotel.Time
The photo was taken during business-hours at mid day.Lighting
Photo taken at a very nice small ornamental garden fountain, natural light, backlit.Equipment
Camera Nikon D7000, with the best Nikon Macro lens, 105mm almost fully open at 3,1Inspiration
The beauty of the water emitting from the fountain's sprinklers as they happened to show sparkling with the natural back lighting.Editing
As always with photos of this kind I used spot-metering and underexposed to avoid overexposed highlights. The photo was processed from its raw-original in Photoshop first in ACR, after that in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I normally use two zoom-lenses, one 16-85 mm and the other 70-300 mm both Nikon, the first for DX, the second for FX. I also us a wide-angle zoom, the Tokina 11-16, 2,8. And then as with this photo my macro-lens, here as is, sometimes with a Nikon 2x tele-converter.Feedback
As I almost always do with macro lenses I use the lens fully open. With the short distance to the subject this results in a very narrow DOF. I don't like to use a tripod with macro photography. I use very short exposure-times like 1/2000, 1/4000 or even 1/8000. That way I can move my camera into focus and thus get sharp exposures. Only practice leads to results.
