Location
While vacationing in Ruidoso, New Mexico. I was at Monjeau Lookout enjoying the beautiful scenery and looking for wildlife to take some pictures of. The wildflowers were beautiful and in abundance.Time
The photo was taken at approximately 1 PM with the sunlight directly overhead.Lighting
Direct sunlight used overhead to capture this image.Equipment
Taken with DSLR Canon 60 D, hand held, using Canon 100-400 lens, aperture set at f/8.0, iso 800, exposure 1/500.Inspiration
Taking pictures of wild flowers in New Mexico. I spotted this large dandelion. I loved how some of it had been already blown away in the breeze to expose the center. I felt with the center exposed it allowed me to capture more detail.Editing
Using Lightroom 5.6 I converted it to black and white and increased the contrast until I achieved the look that I was going for. I added vignette to darken some of the surrounding area to capture mostly just the dandelion in the center. I wanted to draw the viewer into the center of the dandelion to see the fine detail at the center of the dandelion. In my camera bag
I just upgraded to a Canon 7D Mark II and Canon 6D. I also carry lens of Canon 100-400, 50 MM lens and standard lens that come with the cameras. This photo however was taken with my Canon 60 D.Feedback
I wanted to just take some photos and did not really see anything exceptional therefore I started just to experiment taking photos of just common everyday flowers and foliage. I found that even common everyday nothing special foliage can make a beautiful picture. It has inspired me to continue taking photos of anything that captures my attention even if it is not something exciting and see where it goes from there.
