It takes a special type of person to get these guys to do this. They are really skittish birds. I love this shot.

The light was beautiful at this time of day, not too harsh as it was autumn in Paris and just enough to get a high enough shutter speed to capture the fast motion.Equipment

It was a beautiful autumn day in Paris, I just arrived at the magnificent 850 year old Notre Dame Cathedral. Outside the cathedral, sparrows were flying in and out amongst the hundreds of tourists, feeding from their hands. I thought this was quite an amazing site in an already amazing place. It added to the overall beauty and magic of Notre Dame. This inspired me to pull out my camera and take the photo.Editing

For shooting birds in flight, particularly small and fast birds such as sparrows you must have a camera with fast auto-focus. Set the auto-focus to continuous AF, and shutter speed to a minimum of 1/400th of a second. Track the birds and continually re-press the shutter half-way during shooting to refocus on the birds, as soon as you feel you have good focus, press down the shutter fully and take several shots at a time before again repeating the process. This will enable you to have a few series of shots where you should no doubt have a few keepers.
