The Barn Owl (Tyto alba) has to be one of the most striking birds in the UK.

I saw this one near a meadow on the outskirts of town. Sat in my car at dusk I noticed a movement just outside my car window. The bird flew a few laps of the meadow, passing by so close that the lens couldn't focus.
Unfortunately, not seeing one for quite a while I was a bit overwhelmed and sat there staring, watching it bob and glide gently by rather than grabbing my camera.

I was lucky to see it return from a neighbouring field with some food in its talons, though not prepared for the photograph (this is why I'm an amateur!)

These interactions, close encounters, whatever we want to call them are so incredibly good for our mental health and our appreciation of our environment.
