Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the sidewalk right in front of our house where rain always accumulates and faithfully forms a puddle every time.

Time

This was taken in the morning in early October when my toddler was getting restless from being stuck inside due to the rain. I said "OK, time to put on your boots and get outside and play!" And that's what we did.

Lighting

Nothing special! Just the natural lighting that comes along with a rainy, overcast morning.

Equipment

This was taken on a Canon EOS 5D Mark II with a 50mm lens. No other special equipment was used.

Inspiration

The photography subjects I am most passionate about and take the most pictures of are my kids. I love to capture them and their personalities, often wishing I could freeze time in the hopes to never ever forget the little moments. I was inspired to get outside in the rain because my 2 year old was getting a little stir crazy and needed to move. So, outside we went, outside we played, and outside I took photos!

Editing

I made a minor adjustment to the exposure, lightened the shadows, darkened the blacks, and increased whites in an effort to make the splash stand out more. I corrected white balance and increased texture, clarity, and sharpening. I also made minor adjustments to greens, yellows, and oranges.

In my camera bag

I keep it simple with my Canon EOS 5D Mark II, 50mm Canon lens, and 70-210mm F/4 Di VC USD. Can't forget the battery charger and SD card reader. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford the fancy stuff :)

Feedback

The only thing I can say is to just keep taking pictures of what makes your heart happy and lights a fire inside you. Photograph what you are most passionate about and get creative with your viewpoints and angles. And don't forget post-processing!
