Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo of my boyfriend (at the time) on our College Campus in Burlington, VT.

Time

Early morning (around 7am).

Lighting

Lighting was perfect, as we got up early on purpose, so we could get the photos before class.

Equipment

The only equipment I used was my basic Nikon D3400 DSLR camera. Hoping to save up for a more advanced camera soon though. No other equipment felt necessary as I’d already planned out how I wanted to take the photos prior to shooting.

Inspiration

A boy and his beautiful skin. He has something called “Leopard Syndrome” or “Noonans Syndrome” and as a result he has a lot of freckles. (Of course I asked him before posting this photo. I’ve gotten his permission to submit this)

Editing

All I did was crop the photo slightly and turn the presets to monochrome (black and white instead of color).

In my camera bag

I typically have a tripod and two lenses, but for these shots I only needed one lens (Tamron 70-300mm)

Feedback

Just have the guts to ask someone beautiful if you can get their photo. Everyone is beautiful in their own way, but not everyone knows it so to tell them, can truly make their day. Whether you know the person or not, you might make a new friend. Although this boy and I are no longer together, this was a fun moment I'll never forget, and I don't think he will either. There's something to be said about capturing something unique whether it be a beautiful person, thing in nature, or even an object. There's almost something "abstract" about it.
