Behind The Lens

Location

“The photo was taken In Mankkaa, Espoo, in our own garden.”

Time

”I went to our garden in the afternoon and captured a huge set photos of Mongolian maple leaves. This photo was taken September 22, 2022 at 3:06 PM.”

Lighting

”The weather was ideal for photographing the colorful autumn leaves. I think the afternoon sunshine suited me well and gave the right atmosphere.”

Equipment

”This was shot on a Canon EOS 6D, with a Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro lens. No other equipment was involved.”

Inspiration

”Nature and trees interest me. I enjoy autumn when sunshine also increases beauty and color of leaves. I like also capture colorful objects. Also I feel that I can manage the colors when I am capturing nature. I can use a lot of my creativity when photographing tree leaves.”

Editing

”I used Luminar AI. I did the crop and perspective. Then I chose a template which suited to the photo’s style and to the result which I wanted. I also set the light settings and little sharpness. My style is to keep my photos as authentic as possible. I ever do not post-process too much.”

In my camera bag

"I normally have Canon EOS 6D and Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II, Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro, Canon Extension Tube EF25 and Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM in my pack. Sometimes I have a Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II fixed 12.5-62.5mm lens as an option. Canon Speedlite 430EX II and Yongnuo Digital Transmitter Speedlite ST-E2 are also often found. And two chargers with extra batteries. In addition, a connection cable for a MacBook, a Canon RS-60E3 trigger and a lens hood."

Feedback

”In this type of photo, the afternoon sunlight brings the leaves to life. A good plan helps, i.e. what are the objects, everything that should be shown in the picture and from which angle. It seems like it's very easy to get great photos of fall leaves, but it's not. The leaves form thousands of combinations. Pictures should be taken both from close up and from far away. You should take at least 200 photos, of which 3-5 might be good enough to post and maybe one killer. It is important to use light correctly. You should use all your creativity to try to find something new and different. In addition, a suitable lens, camera settings and focus must be chosen correctly. - Finally, a fitting hunch.”
