“The photo was taken at the Helsinki Herring Market at the Market Square. The market is located right on the shores of the Gulf of Finland.”Time
”I went to the market late in the afternoon and captured photos of several targets. Some were street photos and some landscapes. I captured several pictures of the ships that participated in the market. I didn’t have a tripod with me and so it was a challenge because of the long shutter speed. I tried to balance the camera on a railing as best I could. This photo was taken October 6, 2021 at 6:08 PM.”Lighting
”The weather was cloudy. In these circumstances, therefore, I had to balance the camera well due to a long shutter speed. I think the cloudy weather suited me well and gave the right atmosphere.”Equipment
”This was shot on a Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II, with the fixed 12.5-62.5mm (Eq. 35 mm: 24-120 mm) f/2.0-f/3.9 lens. No other equipment was involved.”Inspiration
”Ships and the sea interest me. In addition, vessels are a significant part of the Helsinki Herring Market. And most of the fish products sold are imported by boat or ship. Autumn also increases the atmosphere of ships and boats on the waters. In addition to this, my photography style involves shooting clear and realistic subjects.”Editing
”I just set the crop and perspective horizontally. My style is to keep my photos as authentic as possible.”In my camera bag
”I have normally in my pack Canon EOS 6D with Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II and Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II, with the fixed 12.5-62.5mm lens for street photography as an alternative. There is also my Canon Speedlite 430EX II and Yongnuo Digital Transmitter Speedlite ST-E2. And two chargers with extra batteries. Also there is cable release and connection cable between camera and MacBook.”Feedback
”In this type of photo, sunlight makes the photo too conventional. I think cloudy weather, rain or storms give character to ship and harbor images. A good plan helps, that is, which are targets, everything that should be shown in the image and from what angle. It is important to wait for the right moment to avoid distractions such as extra people in the picture and lack of light. However 1-2 people is pretty good. And some crew is advantage. You have to try to figure out how to get the same mood in the photo. In addition, the appropriate camera settings and focus must be selected right. - Finally, appropriate hunch and creativity.”
