Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken in a patch of flowers growing along the footpath to downtown in Virginia where I live.Time
It was about 9 AM EST, on one of the rare occasions that I was functional at that time. So, my husband and I went out for a walk to see what we could see.Lighting
Nothing I did. But it was an overcast day which provided soft, even lighting.Equipment
Canon EOS Rebel T3 body, Canon EF 28-105MM USM II lens, my hands and eyes.Inspiration
I have always wanted to fly and therefore, I'm a tad bit obsessed with capturing things in flight. I'm also a nature lover that is enthralled with the detail you get with macro photography. But, the real inspiration is the hornet that gave me the opportunity to photograph it.Editing
Yes. As I mentioned, it was an overcast day. Which this gave me diffused lighting but I felt it made the image a little dull. So, I raised shadows and gave it a little clarity for pop.In my camera bag
My Canon EOS Rebel T3 and 18-55 kit lens, a lens hood and the first camera I had, well in the last 20 years. My Nikon Coolpix B500, which was a gift from my oldest son.Feedback
Don't chase your subject. Be still and patient. Let it come to you. Use AI servo to set your focus so you don't have to do it when you take the shot. And finally, raise your shutter speed. You don't have to go by the standard equation either. Play with your settings and find the speed that works for you.
