The Seebrücke Sellin is a pier in the Baltic Sea resort of Sellin on the island of Rügen. The pier has a restaurant near the beach over the water and a diving gondola.
The first plans from 1901 envisaged a 60 meter long jetty, but this did not meet the requirements due to the very large number of visitors. The first 508 meter long pier with a restaurant was built in 1906. Pack ice damaged the structure in 1918; in 1920 the bridgehead was destroyed by fire. In 1924, the bridge was repeatedly damaged by ice drift. In 1925 a new pier was built with a platform and concert hall; it had a length of about 500 meters. This bridge was largely destroyed by heavy ice in the winter of 1941-1942. The undestroyed bridge house was preserved. A popular dance hall was located here in the 1950s to 1970s. During this time, however, the structure of the building was neglected; In 1978 the dilapidated bridgehead had to be demolished along with the superstructure.
In 1991, Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker visited Sellin and associated the active support of the reconstruction. On August 27, 1992, the reconstruction began in several phases according to the designs of the Göhren architects Müller & Herrmann, who were based on the models of the buildings from 1906 and 1925. On December 20, 1997, the honorary citizen of Sellin, Hans Knospe, symbolically cut the ribbon for the structural handover. The official opening of the new bridge building, including the restaurant, took place on April 2, 1998. At 394 meters long, it is the longest pier on the island.
