This was taken in Easton, PA. It shows 2 Eastern Tiger Swallowtails on a butterfly bush.Time
This was taken at 9:30 on August 6thLighting
Lighting was great. It was a sunny day. But, being early in the morning, the sun was at a good angle to illuminate the butterflies. I find shooting butterflies is often better before 10am. Both because the lighting is better and because you can get good shots since the butterflies are less active in the early morning.Equipment
This was shot on a Sony a7Rii with a Sony 200-600mm lens. Focal length for this shot was 600mm. ISO was 500, f6.3 and exposure 1/500 sec.Inspiration
I was specifically looking for a female Tiger Swallowtail and was just fortunate to get this shot with the two Swallowtails.Editing

Sony a7ii with a Sony 200-600mm and a Tamron 28-200mm. I use the 200-600mm probably 95% of the time. But I will switch to the smaller lens if I expect to be shooting something where I need the closer minimum focus distance.Feedback
If you can find a farm with rows of zinnia or a butterfly bush, there should be abundant butterflies. I prefer to shoot them before 10am when they’re less active and it’s easier to get stationary shots. They’re easily spooked. So it’s helpful to be able to stay some distance away and shoot with a zoom lens.
