Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the British Wildlife Centre. My father and myself were invited along to a photography workshop run there. This is actually my favourite picture from the day.

Time

The session was an afternoon/evening session. This shot was probably taken around 4pm. It was one of the days the uk was experiencing the high 30° temperatures, luckily we had some cloud coverage on this afternoon.

Lighting

We had some cloud covering which made the daylight far less harsh that afternoon. The trees also created a lot of shade in this area leading to the darker nature of this image, which I actually love!

Equipment

This shot was taken on my canon 5D IV, using a 75-300, handheld. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I don’t think I’d actually seen a red squirrel in the fur before this. I loved the colours and the composition of this squirrel and just had to get some shots of it.

Editing

Other than a slight crop, this shot is how it came out of the camera which I’m really proud of!

In my camera bag

My go to for my camera bag are my canon 5D IV body, my 105 sigma macro 2.8, a 25-70 L IS USM, and the 75-300. I’m wanting to save up for something with a longer focal length though.

Feedback

Patience is key. Trying to stay quiet and still is not the easiest but it definitely pays off. If you’re lucky enough to have wildlife in your reach then…. I know everyone says it, but it’s all about getting out and practicing. The photography workshops can be good from a learning point of view. I’m still very much learning myself to be honest.
