Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken in my garden. We weren’t sure what was going to bloom. We were pleasantly surprised to see a gorgeous Dahlia with stunning colors!

Time

This shot was taken late afternoon as the sun was setting.

Lighting

The lighting was good. I only had a few darker shadows that hindered the shot a little.

Equipment

I used an older Canon EOS Rebel. The lens I used was an EF-S 18-55. No tripod or flash.

Inspiration

My husband bought this camera years ago and it was packed away. I recently found it as I was going through boxes. I have not used a camera before and picked it up to use about 5 months ago. I wanted to practice and the bloom was too pretty to not get a shot of it.

Editing

I had to correct some lighting issue as there were some darker shadows around the bloom.

In my camera bag

I have my Canon EOS Rebel T1i (hoping to get a new camera soon); my 18-55 and 70-300 lens; Hoya filters and a tripod.

Feedback

I have learned that the time of day makes a huge difference. The sun sets quickly and timing the shot is crucial. Preset your camera before going out to shoot and make small adjustments while photographing your subject.
