This photograph was taken in my garden. I had decided to take up photography and had only had my camera for one week when I caught Covid, my first couple of weeks of my new hobby were spent in my garden capturing images of flowers and birds.Time
This was taken on the 29th March 2022 at around 10am.Lighting
I wanted natural light but not too bright which was why I chose that time of day.Equipment
I used my new Nikon d5600 with the 70-300mm kit lens. No tripod.Inspiration
I was new to photography and wanted to put into practice what I had been learning about depth of field. The snakes head fritillary is one of my favourite flowers in my garden.Editing
Using the Adobe Lightroom mobile app I cropped the picture and made minor adjustments to the exposure (slight increase), shadows (moderate increase) and very minor changes to whites and blacks. In my camera bag
At the time of this photograph it’s was my Nikon d5600 with both the 18-55mm and 70-300mm kit lenses. I have since bought a Sigma 150-600mm lens for wildlife photography and a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 prime lens for street photography and events. I also now have a Joby GorillaPod.Feedback
Find a time when the natural light is not too bright and not too dark. Choose a day when the is little to no wind so that the flower is not moving too much to prevent motion blur at slower shutter speeds. Use a wider aperture for a shallow depth of field and take the photograph from the shortest distance to the subject while maintaining the focus.
