Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the town of Boston just on the outskirts of the Buffalo, NY Metro area. There, the terrains starts to change up to what is called The Boston Hills. Most red foxes if seen rarely allow humans to really even be within view area but this fellow was relaxing in the shade just on the side of the road. He remained there comfortably allowing us to get a few shots from a few feet away and then casually walked into the nearby woods.

Time

This photo was taken around 1:30 in the afternoon on a rather humid and very sunny July 3rd, 2021

Lighting

This was just a snap and shoot photo. The lighting was just on automatic setting. It was a beautiful sunny day and the Fox sat in a shady area making for great lighting showing the details of the Fox and it’s surroundings without being washed out by too much sunlight.

Equipment

I use a point and shoot camera. It is the Canon Powershot SX50 HS. It was just on the automatic setting. I do not use filters or any kind and I do not use stacking. I have a simple easy travel folding universal tripod and the canon snap and shoot corded remote clicker that is made for this camera.

Inspiration

seeing a Red Fox seems to be something we rarely see especially one up close. He was almost enjoying our company while we took a few snaps before he casually walked back into the woods. It felt like a one of a chance photo for me to get of auch a healthy and adorable and mellow Fox. I was inspired simply by its beauty and being in the moment and I’m glad I got the shot!

Editing

No processing, editing or filters of any kind were added to this photo. It was just simply uploaded from the camera as is.

In my camera bag

I’m new to photography and for now happily use point and shoot camera Canon SX50 HS. I just recently purchased the Canon EOS 2000D camera I haven’t used it much due to the fact that this camera gets amazing shots and has an amazing zoom lense and without having to bring along lenses. I do always have my tripod which ironically I bought off of Wish over 3 years ago. It’s probably the best tripod I’ve ever had. It’s very lightweight and stable and has never given me any issues. I can snap it together with camera on it ready to go in just a matter of seconds. The maker of the tripod is ZOMEi and it’s model Q111. Also love that it’s brightly colored and thin making it very easy to keep track off when I’m trying to take pictures of the moon or have it set up in a dark areas. It has secure black lock clips that are not made of metal and the tripods color is a coating that seems to make it much easier to handle when it’s cold out and easy to put together without having to see what your doing in dark areas. I also use the plug in clicker/lock button to get pictures stable. Sometimes pushing the button without any kind of delay on can make pictures shakey unless used in sport mode.

Feedback

If you see any animals you would like to photograph make sure if they are unaware of your presents make sure you try to have everything set up and ready to just set down and shoot. Wild animals as we know are typically very unpredictable. Never get within close range where you have the animal feeling threatened. Just like people the more natural and calm the animal is the more amazing your pictures can become. When taking pictures of this I just slid my lock button on the clicker on and took several sets of pictures so I could pick and choose which ones I really thought showed the most detail. Although this Fox was aware I was nearby he never acted as if I was bothering him but I didn’t want him to feel that way when he saw my Tal tripod and my camera. I was able to zoom in from about 18 feet. I was aware at all times of things around me and had family I was with keep their eyes peeled for perhaps a mother Fox. We didn’t want to disturb or upset any if this was one of her misplaced young ones. He appeared to alone and really gave me time to set up exactly the shots I wanted.
