Ship Rock rises 1,800 feet above the high-plains desert of northwestern New Mexico. Navajo hold the rock sacred, a source of myths and legends. This image was captured from the largest lava dike looking back toward the craggy peak. As the sun sets and the sky glows the Ship Rock and the lava formations take on an otherworldly glow. It is easy to see why the iconic landmark is revered.
