In one of the orchards just outside of taft, california. We have a lot of orchards in our area that bloom like this every year.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on an impromptu family photos trip, in one of the many orchards surrounding our little town. I had previously purchased a attachable shutter button for my camera but had never used it before. The kids were thrilled because this time mom was actually able to be in the photos instead of just taking them.

Time

As it was a spur of the moment trip I believe this was taken in the late afternoon hours. We drove through 5 different orchards before finding one that still had enough petals on the trees. Roughly 2 weeks into spring 2022.

Lighting

Nothing to special about the lighting except the sun was behind the camera but below the tree line.

Equipment

I was using my Canon rebel T6, on a stationary tripod, with an extended shutter button.

Inspiration

I had previously done family photos in another orchard a few years back and they turned out awesome. This was an attempt to recreate and show just how much the kids had grown and found themselves.

Editing

I think this was a cropped image as the original had much more of the trees in frame.

In my camera bag

I have a camera bag that carries all of my equipment. I don't really have any fancy lenses or anything just the original bundle I got with my camera.

Feedback

Orchard pictures are fleeting moments. You have to catch the trees at just the right time or they end up looking rather bare. As well as finding an orchard that isn't too crowded cause everyone wants orchard photos.
