Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my backyard in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA.

Time

This photo was taken on April 7, 2020 at 7:56PM. The moon was being obscured by the clouds, so it took some patience to get this one.

Lighting

It was dark, the sky had a lot of clouds, so what little light there was reflecting off of the moon and made for a very flat light.

Equipment

Shot with a Nikon D-850, using a F series 200-500mm/5.6 lens and a TC-14EII teleconverter for an effective focal length of 700mm

Inspiration

Working at night without light is difficult and makes you really understand the camera and where all the functions are. Looking up a that moon is some that I have always done.

Editing

Minimal processing on this. A little bit of denoise and a slight adjustment to the curve and I added my copyright.

In my camera bag

My kit now consists of two Nikon Z9's, and a FTZII adapter to use with my existing F lenses. I own 3 Z lenses, which are in my bag, 40mm, at 24-120mm and a 70-200. My long glass is a 200-400/4.5 and a 200-500/5.6 which I uses depending on what I am shooting and the venue. I have a wide assortment of lenses for 10mm to 500mm which I use depending on the needs at the time.

Feedback

Patience. Don't rush and read the manual to understand what the camera can do.
