Location

This photo (along with 20 others!) Was taken during a day trip along I-80, at the elk refuge outside of Bear River Preserve. He is the largest bull of the herd, and took great pride in posing for me. He's got a very commanding and mesmerizing presence that I tried to capture with photography.

Time

It was around 4pm when we entered the Preserve and began roaming. The elk herds as well as the buffalo herds were very active at that time, so it was perfect.

Lighting

Late Autumn sunlight with just a bit of clouds really helped highlight his coloring. I prefer working with natural lighting whenever possible, especially seasonal

Equipment

Free-held Sony aO1, standard macro lens, no additional equipment

Inspiration

Nature is the best inspiration! And I am fascinated with the wildlife that is abundant in Wyoming, where I live.

Editing

No post processing, just right out of the camera
