I took the photograph at Kinderdijk. These well-known lovely windmills are part of the UNESCO World Heritage and a wonderful destination at any time of the year.Time
It was the 09. Oct. 2021 at exactly 17:26:05.Lighting
The natural lighting conditions were average. An overcast Sky without spectacular structure or clouds. Furthermore as you can see the windmills were in back-lighting. Therefore and to be sure to get all details in the shadows in good quality I chose an overexposure of 1EV.Equipment
This photograph was shot handheld on a Nikon D500, with a Nikkor AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8 Prime Zoom attached. ISO 200, 36mm, f/11, 1/200s.Inspiration
I love these windmills, their beautiful reflections on the smooth surface of the water and their majestic appearance. But most of all I was inspired by the strong contrasts and silhouettes.Editing
In this case the main challenge in post-processing was to keep and reinforce the special atmosphere during the black and white conversion. It needed a bit of fine-tuning between lights, shadows, clarity and blur to get this result.In my camera bag
For decades now I shot with Nikon Cameras and lenses. In my bag I normally have a Nikon D4 for portraits or fast action shots or a Nikon D500 for landscape or animal photography. I love the 14-24mm and the 24-70mm Prime Zooms, that fit both in my bag. Other lenses such as the 105mm Macro or the longer ones between 70mm and 600mm I only use when shooting animals or portraits.Feedback
For this kind of image you don't need a sophisticated equipment because the main things here are the composition and the post-processing with b&w conversion and an improved practice in the handling of light, shadows and contrasts. So what you need first is a good photographic eye or vision and some editing skills.
