Harris Hawk; Native to the semi-arid parts of the USA reaching into Argentina in the south but absent from the Amazon. Known for their fearlessness and tenacity in pursuit of prey. A local South African who runs a bird rehab center at the Speer Wine Estate near Cape Town offers a service of removing vermin. using falconry as a natural means of reducing excess populations of rodents and birds where urbanization has marginalized wild predators. The proceeds go to funding the facility where birds are brought in due to injury, poisoning, or human imprint (tame). In this instance, this hawk took down an Egyptian goose weighing several multiples more than this feisty raptor. The light was a perfect match for an extraordinary subject. I hope you enjoy it.
