Scarborough - North Bay - 15th April 1945 British 11th Armoured Division took surrender of Bergen Belsen - Freddie stayed behind to help dispose of 20,000 rotting corpses and 20,000 still alive of which 13,000 whould die of disease. He had been at Belsen for a month, and there on his 24th birthday when he broke down and cried, he cried on every birthday thereafter until his death in 2008. He never married.
