Desoto Falls near Mentone, Alabama.Time
This photo was taken at about 7:10am right after the park opened. Oddly enough, my son and I were on our way to take photos on rusted automobiles at Old Car City in Georgia but as we got to closer to the state line, we noticed that the fog was getting thicker on the mountain. I almost didn't stop. At the last minute, I veered off down the road to the park and when we arrived, the sun was just trying to melt off the fog. With the fall colors and the muted light, it was perfect timing. We arrived at our original destination a little late but we still got some great shots there as well but not nearly as perfect as this one.Lighting
The fog was burning off and the sun was trying to shine through the fall leaves but it was muted just enough to make the light special.Equipment
Canon 6D mk II with a Canon 25-105 4.0 lens. Lightweight tripod.Inspiration
I had shot here before and it's either too crowded or the light was not good or the colors weren't right. It's a beautiful scene even when it's not perfect.Editing
This was a HDR shot so I stitched three shots into one using Lightroom. I did bring the light onto the tree to the right a little more but other than that, there wasn't a lot of post processing. In my camera bag
I usually never leave the house without my Canon 6D mk II, my Canon 24-105 lens and my Canon 85mm lens. I have several tripods I use so I try to make sure I have at least one light weight tripod on hand.Feedback
Patience is the key for anything. I had waited for this shot for the last four years and finally got it.
