Behind The Lens

Location

I took this at one of my absolute favourite places, it is from Noosa Heads. My favourite place is the beach just around the corner.

Time

Around 5:50pm. I just love sunset photos. It is 3 hours from my place, so I tend to lean towards sunset photos on the Sunshine Coast. I just love the beauty of creation in all it’s glory at this time.

Lighting

I wanted to set the mood. That feeling I get when I come here, the serenity of the location, best captured by the reds, gold and pinks at this time.

Equipment

Nikon D850, Tamron 17-35mm wide angle lens. 10 stop ND filter to get the effect of the water.

Inspiration

I am a registered nurse, but not able to work, especially because of PTSD, so Noosa is my peaceful place. I love that it is in a bay, so the water is so calm, and the tropical fish swim around you in the crystal clear water. I wanted to capture some of that serenity through colours and that kind of ethereal effect on the water, that takes you to another place. So I guess, I was telling a story through colour and long exposure. Thanks for asking me to share my story of this photo.

Editing

I didn’t do a lot to it in Light Room. I just tried to bring back the colours that were there on the night. Especially the red, gold snd pink. Enhancing the turquoise that I saw in the water too. RAW files kind of strip back the colour, so it was bringing back what I saw, and that feeling you experience. In admiration of creation.

In my camera bag

Kase magnetic filter kits. ND 20, 6, 8 stop, graduated filters, polariser. Tamron wide angle lens, and my brand new. Nikon AF-S 24-120 mm F4 G IF-ED VR lens. Giotto ball, brush, cloth, lens ball, Godoy flash, Handel capture, L bracket for portrait photos. I have just ordered Kase magnetic filters, as the bracket kept falling off, even knocked off by a bystander.

Feedback

The timing on ND 10 filters is the biggest thing. I had to adjust the time in the remote, with each photo, as the sun was setting, and obviously getting darker. Watching each photo appear, rather than waiting until the end (only to find it was too dark or light).
