Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on a tree backyard of my home.

Time

The photo was taken July 7, 2021 at around 10 AM. Actually after the chicks were hatched, every morning with my breakfast tea and camera, I stay for the best shot whenever mother brings the food for chicks, I had the best shot of gaping of chicks but still I am not satisfied of feeding, so I choose the morning time to shoot the picture when chicks get hungry to have food from its mother.

Lighting

It is the morning light.

Equipment

This was shot on Canon EOS 5D Mark III with EF 100 -400mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens with a tripod.

Inspiration

I was trying to shoot the family of crow from past three years. Past two years crow made a nest and laid eggs, due to weather or some other reasons eggs fell down and even nest was damaged. This year due to COVID-19, there was lockdown, most of the time I was at home and saw crows making nest. I had some shots of making nest too. I was lucky, this time crow hatches eggs. I was so happy to have my long time interest to shoot photos of chicks growing up. Unluckily branches were long, so I couldn't have the first few weeks photos of chicks. As chicks getting bigger and started gaping, I got the best shot ever of their gaping together for food. But I am not satisfied, then I think to have photo of chicks and mother crow. It took me few weeks, hundreds of shots to have this shot.

Editing

I have taken this photo in Jpeg format as I need to take lot of continuous shots. As part of post-processing. I crop slightly and did color enhancement through Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I usually carry Canon EOS 5D Mark III and Canon EOS 5D Mark II with 17-40mm lens and EF 100 -400mm. And whenever I go for indoor photography I carry flash too in my bag. While travelling out of city , I even carry 24 -105mm lens and GOPRO. I prefer the best shots no matter what equipment you are using, so I carry my mobile phone with me all the time even I don't carry my camera bag. So if I got the subject to click, I took with my mobile phone, not to miss the opportunity of timely capture.

Feedback

Whenever you are capturing wildlife or animals, you should have lot of patience staying beyond time limit. Then comes timing of shot and of course a luck.
