This is how the rays of the Astro Rey filter at sunset after an electrical storm over the Caribbean Sea, reflecting its golden color towards the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta-Colombia. This photo I took from a Lodge located 2,000 meters above sea level which has this wonderful view of the Caribbean Sea and the city of Santa Marta.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta - Colombia, at an altitude of 2,000 m.a.s.l.

Time

I love this photo very much because it reminds me that that day we were doing a BordWatching and Fotonaturaleza day here in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, from early in the morning until approximately 2 p.m. We had to stop for a long time to wait because the weather changed drastically and there was a strong electrical storm in the region, but I never lose hope that at the end of the afternoon the strong winds in the area will displace the clouds and allow a kind of "window" to be opened through which the sun's rays filter just before sunset and that is how it happened on this occasion, at 5:36 p.m., it was possible to capture this beautiful image of the Solar moments falling on the Caribbean Sea and this acting as a reflector directs them towards the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, giving a magical touch to that hour.

Lighting

I always take my photographs with natural light precisely to be able to capture those natural colors that are the essence of what I am seeing at that moment and I want to "freeze it in time" through an image that impacts.

Equipment

This was shot on a Panasonic DMC-FZ47 Camera. No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

I am passionate about sunsets and that is why I always try to capture those magical moments that most of the time, although it is very cloudy in the area, I wait until the last moment, always maintaining the good positive energy that at any time the strong winds move the clouds and allow you to have this marvel of landscapes with incredible colors just when the sun goes down on the Caribbean Sea.

Editing

No. Actually what I use in my photographs is a minimum adjustment of the Balance of highlights and shadows.

In my camera bag

I usually keep in my backpack a Nikon D7100 camera with 18 - 140mm and 70 - 300mm lenses, I also sometimes use a Panasonic DMC-FZ47 or a Canon camera and always a very good tripod.

Feedback

Being prepared regarding meteorological knowledge since in this region of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta being located next to the Caribbean Sea and having all the Thermal Floors together with a spectacular topography gives us the possibility of having a very changing climate and some scenarios formidable naturals for Nature and Landscape photography, but above all, it is essential to have a lot of patience precisely because the weather can be very changeable in a matter of minutes.
