Behind The Lens

Location

One of my favorite birding sites is Cresent Bend Nature Park in Schertz Texas. I cut my teeth birding there and still go every chance I have. This was the first painted bunting I have photographed and he put on a great show.

Time

I went after work, early evening. I had seen a post that someone had seen a painted bunting in the park so took the chance and got there as soon as I could.

Lighting

Early evening light, filtered through the trees but still great for photography

Equipment

I used a nikon D850 with a Nikkor 600mm f4 mounted on a tripod.

Inspiration

I raced to the park hoping to see this guy. I was so excited when he showed up and scared I would not get a shot. Fortunately he gave me a good 3 or 4 minutes before taking off.

Editing

Very little post processing using lightroom.

In my camera bag

When out birding I have a Nikon D850 with a nikkor 600mm f4. For sports a nikkor 120-300mm f2.8 and portrait a nikkor 105mm f1.4.
